Fox and Hounds
Translation details
Model:mistral-large-2512.Translated text
Section titled “Translated text”A game played by village boys in Stanisławów County (Lesser Poland); application as in the previous. A group of 10—50 children select a “fox” (by counting-out: How many buttons, Red little buttons, And over the sea, Fox, go to your den!); the rest are the “hounds.” The playing field is arranged as in “Black Man.” One of the goals is the fox’s “den,” while the hounds stand behind the other. At a distance from the hounds’ goal—agreed upon by the fox but always closer to that goal than the center of the field—a light object (a cap, sash, 1, etc.) is placed on a small flag (1, etc.). The fox runs out of the den, snatches the object, and flees back, pursued by one or several hounds (who may only leave their goal once the fox has touched the prize). A hound who catches the fox before the den (by slapping his back) swaps places with the fox. Additionally, a fox who is caught, as well as a hound who fails to catch the fox, must forfeit a token (hence the game’s name), and the game ends with their redemption (see General Section).
