Game marked with an asterisk in the book: more suitable for older scouts.

The terrain on which the exercise takes place has precisely defined boundaries. A courier must cross it and deliver a dispatch to a designated point (there may be several such points).

The courier is the white patrol leader, who, in addition to his patrol badge, wears another badge on his shoulder. He is escorted by 1–2 scouts, while the rest of the patrol facilitates his journey by scouting the terrain, giving early warnings of danger, driving off the reds, etc. Before the exercise, the patrol leader must explain to everyone the route he will take and how they are to assist him along the way. If he is forced to change his original route, he must inform his patrol, so he must maintain constant contact with them. In case of great danger, he may hand the dispatch to one of his escorts, but in such a case, he must also hand over his courier badge. The dispatch must be kept in the blouse pocket; it must not be destroyed or hidden elsewhere.

The reds, who have twice as many patrols as the whites, attempt to intercept the dispatch or at least prevent its delivery within the specified time. In that case, the game will be undecided. They are not allowed to occupy the points to which the dispatch is to be delivered.

The evaluation of results can vary. One may award 6 points for delivering the dispatch — 3 points for intercepting it — 1 point for capturing an opponent. Alternatively, both delivery and interception may be counted as 3 points each if the whites have a clear advantage in skill.

The exercise can also be made more difficult for the whites by prohibiting the courier carrying the dispatch from handing it to a comrade.

During the exercise, the rules for encounters with the enemy, based on general regulations, apply.
