A scout patrol travels along a path forming a closed polygon, aiming to traverse it entirely and return unnoticed to the starting point. The path is 3–4 km long and should be covered in 1½–2 hours. The patrol knows that during the march, they will encounter an enemy, whom they must pass without drawing attention while observing them closely. They may deviate from the marked path, but no more than 30 paces to the side. Each scout who passes the enemy unnoticed must record who the enemy was, as well as where and under what conditions they were encountered. If both enemies notice each other, they must retreat until they are out of each other’s sight. Each scout moves separately unless the patrol leader has given other instructions.

A second patrol is sent along the same path in the opposite direction, but the first patrol does not know the time of their departure—whether they have already set out or are yet to do so. It is the leader’s responsibility to arrange the departure times so that the scouts meet on the section of the path most suitable for stealth.

Scouts from both patrols who reach the destination within the specified time must present their notes to the leader, from which it will be clear who managed to pass unnoticed and observe the enemy.
