Section titled “Translated text”A white scout is given the order: «You will walk 10 minutes along the road, then 300 paces in the direction of NW, where you will find a wayside shrine surrounded by trees—hide there. A red scout will arrive; follow him, for you must later describe what he did.»
The red scout is ordered to take a different route to the same shrine so that he arrives

a few minutes after the white scout. Upon arrival, he may, for example, be tasked with drawing the outline of the shrine or sketching on paper the most prominently visible terrain features from that spot, etc.
After the red scout leaves, the white scout also departs unnoticed. The patrol leader, upon receiving the drawing from the red scout, asks him if he saw anything else interesting. If the answer is no, he has the white scout describe all of the red scout’s actions. Next time, the red scout will keep his eyes open.
In this way, a series of scouts can be stationed at various points, while others are given tasks to perform at those same locations. An entire patrol can also be sent out, which will find it harder to hide, especially if not one but several enemies arrive.
