Through a Chain of Stations
Translation details
Model:mistral-medium-2604.Translated text
Section titled “Translated text”Several patrols (at least two) position themselves in the field at equal distances from a location indicated to them on a map, e.g., from hill ×. At the designated time, all patrols set out toward this hill, leaving 3 scouts at their starting point with a planted flag. Along the way, they set up signaling stations (at least one) so that, in the end, a group of 2–3 scouts reaches the hilltop. This creates a chain of stations, arranged in such a way that each station is visible only to its neighboring stations.
Whoever reaches the hill receives a written order from the scout stationed there, which must be passed along the chain back to the initial station. The initial station immediately executes the order, and the judge present there records the time when the order was carried out. Which patrol will execute the order the fastest?
The order should be short and the same for all patrols, e.g., “Light a fire with strong smoke.”
