Pair Race

Section titled “Translated text”Two teams sit on the ground in rows parallel to each other. The first in each row receives one letter, the second another, and so on. The patrol leader, positioned at a certain distance in front of the heads of both rows, signals one of these letters. The pair designated by it jumps up, runs to the patrol leader, touches his hand, and rushes back to their place. The first of the two earns a point for their team. The game is played to 10–15 points. The game can be varied by increasing the requirements during the race, for example: the racers must hop on one leg or jump over a bench, or run with an egg on a spoon, or draw their letter in Morse code with chalk on the floor around the patrol leader (if the patrol leader signaled with semaphore flags), and so on. From time to time, the patrol leader claps. This means that everyone now has the next letter in the alphabet, i.e., whoever had “a” now has “b,” whoever had “p” now has “r,” and so on.
