The following game, when applied judiciously, may be used: we read aloud a story written by ourselves about the conduct of a boy or a group of boys, containing examples of the application or violation of various points of the Scout Law. Whoever correctly identifies which points of the Law these examples pertain to wins. The judicious application consists in avoiding the creation of rigid mental templates in the boys regarding the Scout Law: for instance, Point III of the Law—picking up a bag on the street, Point V—giving up a seat on the tram, and so on—boys may believe that such courtesies compensate for deeper shortcomings in scouting life.
