Emissaries from two rival nations competing to discover the pole advance from two directions toward a specific target in the terrain (the pole). They depart simultaneously from points equidistant from the pole. They may travel on skis or, as in the previous case, pull sleds. Following the emissaries, the rest of the expedition sets out along their tracks, striving to reach the goal as swiftly as possible. They depart 10 minutes after their forerunners have left. En route, at one-quarter of the distance to the pole, an unfortunate accident befalls both leading patrols, forcing them to halt. The groups following the front patrols carry aid to them (specify rescue tasks) and only then proceed to the final conquest of the pole, transporting the injured. The group that arrives first at the pole in its entirety claims the pole for its nation.

The above games may also be adapted for those who cannot ski. In summer, they can be conducted in any urban or rural terrain with an altered storyline. By requiring a description of the terrain traversed, the purely physical aspect of the game is expanded to a more purposeful one.
