Section titled “Translated text”The youth are positioned at a certain distance (500—1500 m) from: a railway line (to know when a train passes), a highway, or a road, in such a way that they cannot see the given routes or are unaware of their existence.
In the first case, the goal is to: hear the sound of moving means of transportation, walking or talking people as early as possible by placing an ear to the ground; to distinguish individual means of transportation by their sound. In the second case, additionally, to deduce the type of road, its distance, and its course.
Often in the field, we will have the opportunity to spot an aircraft based on its noise. It is necessary not only to seize the chance to detect it but also to teach the youth to hide from it, utilizing the given terrain. The best cover will be trees, bushes, houses, fences; in their absence, one should adapt to the background, the terrain’s features, or remain motionless.
The above exercises should be practiced at different times of the day and night and under various weather conditions, highlighting the influence of these factors when assessing distance.
