The following game excellently develops sharpness of vision. After handing each scout a card divided into 12 small squares (or a sheet from a grid notebook), they are instructed to move several hundred meters away (starting from 100), toward the shorter wall of the room. The judge then takes a large card (stretched on a drawing board) or a white cardboard, divided into 12 squares, each with sides at least 3 inches long, or if indoors, 1¹/₂ to 2 inches. Next, the judge pins black cardboard circles, each half an inch in diameter, in any of the 6 squares and turns the card so everyone can see it clearly. Then, everyone slowly approaches, and once they can clearly distinguish the marked pattern, they copy it onto their own cards. The winner is the one who accurately reproduces it from the greatest distance from the judge.
