Section titled “Translated text”A game from rural boys in the Kraków region, suitable for elementary schools and the lowest grades of secondary schools. The children line up in a row and receive names of various birds from the leader (“the host”). Then a player who has been standing aside comes forward and begins bargaining. — Knock, knock! — Who’s there? — It’s me, the devil with a scorched pot. — What do you need? — Birds. — Which ones do you want? — Orioles (jays, storks, etc.). — There are none (if he did not guess correctly). Moreover, if he pointed to the wrong boy, that boy aims a ball at him. If the devil guessed correctly, he himself throws the ball at the chosen bird. If he hits, he takes the bird for himself; if he misses, he again exposes himself to a shot from the bird’s side. The bird that misses goes into devilish captivity. The game ends when all the birds are captured.
