This game imitates the method favored by our forefathers of sending messages via relay horses. Suitable for secondary schools.

a) Its proper, original form requires a large space and takes place on a (little-traveled and not dusty) highway. If two teams of 10 participants each are to compete over a distance of one kilometer, we position the white camp on the left side and the red camp on the right side of the highway. The first runners from each camp stand at the starting point, while the others are spaced at intervals of 100 meters—with the last runners positioned 100 meters from the finish line. Both first runners receive a “wici” (a message in a cardboard tube, a ribbon, or a small flag) and set off simultaneously to pass it to the second runners, who then pass it to the third, and so on. The team whose wici reaches the finish line first wins.

b) On a school field, the game is conducted as follows: The “white” and “red” teams take positions next to each other along the longer sides of the field (in the diagram, for example, whites on the left, reds on the right). Players from each team line up in pairs facing each other at designated spots—1 from 3 at 3—5 meters, and 1 from 2 at 30—50 meters. At the given signal, the first runners (white and red) set off simultaneously, handing the small flag or ribbon to the second runners—white to the first white runner, red to the first red runner. The second runners immediately run to the third, the third to the fourth, and so on. The team that first succeeds in carrying its marker to the finish line wins; the finish line is located opposite the last runner (in the diagram, opposite the eighth runner).
