A rural youth game, once widespread in many regions of Poland, now preserved almost solely in song form; suitable for secondary school girls. The girls form two lines facing each other, holding hands. One line—the matchmakers—advances and retreats with a dancing step (mazurka). The other line represents the maiden of marriageable age and her family; they step backward with a walking step as the matchmakers approach and, conversely, move forward as the matchmakers retreat. During the final verse, both lines join into a circle and dance. Then the roles switch: the former matchmakers become the maiden’s entourage and vice versa.
