A rural girls’ game, suitable for secondary girls’ schools, known in two distinct forms.

(a) In Mazovia, the girls form a circle, holding hands, while one remains inside the circle. The Rose chooses one of the dancers on the circle’s edge and bows to her. The circle continues turning as they sing the verse: The Rose kisses (in the air) the same girl she bowed to; the circle turns further as they sing: The Rose dances with the companion she kissed. Then they switch places, and the game continues. A Krakowiak step is used.

(b) In the Kraków region, the game begins as in (a). After singing the first verse, however, the Rose selects a companion to join her inside the circle. Then the first verse is sung again, and the second girl selects a third, and so on, so that a second circle forms inside the first. When the inner circle has as many girls as the original one, it moves outside (under the arms of the girls in the first circle), creating two circles side by side. In the second (new) circle, the girls sing: The girls called in this way enter the center of the new circle in turn.
