On the Paths of Your Patrol

Section titled “Translated text”We create a route (there may be several) forming a closed loop. From one point, two units set out in opposite directions. The marching time varies depending on the time available. In the first stage, which constitutes 1/3 of the time allocated for the game, each unit should cover half of the designated route and meet at a specified location. The longer such a route, the better for the exercise itself. For example, I provide such a route for a half-day excursion (6 hours).
During the first 2½ hours of marching, the units perform: a sketch of their route, reconnaissance of a chosen or designated object, a perspective sketch from any point, and place a series of letters, the locations of which are marked on the sketch. The route sketch is made by individual members of the given unit on designated sections. These sections combine to form a whole. In this way, every patrol member is compelled to sketch directly.
After a certain time and at a certain place, the units moving toward each other meet. This meeting may serve as an opportunity for a new game if we assume that the unit which first notices and observes the opponents’ actions wins, based on the principles: to see and hear without being seen or heard. After the meeting, there is a rest period, completion of sketches, and exchange of the route sketches made, on which are marked: the location of hidden letters, the reconnaissance object, and the position for the perspective sketch. The middle part lasts 1 hour.
After the rest, based on the exchanged sketches, the units continue their journey, finding the left letters, conducting reconnaissance of the same object, and drawing a perspective sketch from the same point.
Finally, the units reach the starting point from which they marched. There, their work is compared and evaluated.
