Section titled “Translated text”We are a military company tasked with occupying the line between the villages of Kicin and Wierzonka and organizing a defense there. (Fig. 11).
For this purpose, 1 platoon (which may be a single unit or several participants) will take position at the northern road junction in the village of Kicin, 1 squad of 2 platoon—on hill 102, the remainder of 2 at the road junction in the village of Wierzonka, while 3, held in reserve, will reach the village of Wierzenica with the task of establishing communication with the preceding platoons. All squads will submit reports on occupying their positions to the company commander, who will be located in front of the defensive line at the northern edge of the village of Kliny.
The starting point for these exercises will be the manor of Nowy Dwór.
Before departure, each group locates its position on the map. The instructor assesses the speed and accuracy of the orientation performed. Next, the groups

determine the time within which they are to occupy the designated positions. The instructor verifies the completion of this task as far as possible. He may send participants from opposing groups (individual exercise) with synchronized watches to control the individual positions. The boys assigned for control may have a further task—returning to their own units occupying the designated points. It is also possible to set a time for messengers to meet each other along with terrain sketches, giving them in turn new instructions to reach other units with certain orders.
This type of game can be expanded over a larger area into a series of orientation and directional exercises. The aim is to achieve as much movement in the terrain as possible, carried out based on the map by individual units as well as groups.
Among orientation games is the so-called “treasure hunt,” which is elaborated in the next section.
