This game involves two scouts and is best played on a moonless night, or during the part of the night after dusk before moonrise or after moonset. Stars are not an obstacle. One scout sits in place, while the other approaches stealthily and by crawling from a distance of 90 meters. To mislead vigilance, the approaching scout should throw small stones in the opposite direction from which they are advancing.

This exercise trains the ear exceptionally well to distinguish the rustle made by a thrown clod of earth or stone from the sound caused by crawling or footsteps.
